Abstract/Summary:
This research develops convex optimization frameworks for smart antenna beamforming synthesis. The proposed optimization techniques provide global optimal solutions for beamforming synthesis where the interference signals are nulled and the desired signal strength is amplified via real or complex weight coefficients. The proposed convex optimization solutions for the direct data domain method offer new and efficient computational approaches to address the matrix inversion and possibly real-time computational complexity problems. A system-oriented convex optimization framework involving the Pade approximation is also developed for both uniform and non-uniform antenna array synthesis problems, yielding lower computational complexity, improved beampatterns and convex formulations for the non-uniform antenna arrays.
