The purpose of this study was to present a policy analysis on the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000 (Pub. L. No. 106-386). This is the first and most comprehensive federal legislation concerning human trafficking.; The findings indicate progress is evident in the area of victim identification and rescue and aftercare services to rehabilitate and reintegrate. Despite these advancements, there is a discrepancy between the number of estimated victims versus the number of rescued and certified victims. The lack of public education and awareness contributes to the under identification of victims. Another challenge is the requirements of the TVPA hinder the official certification of trafficking victims.; The results of the study conclude social workers can assist with efforts to combat human trafficking by taking a proactive role in the areas of policy, advocacy, education, and victim services.
