Abstract/Summary:
The vocabulary sizes of monolingual, Russian infants residing in America were examined using a Russian version of the MCDI that has been developed in Russia. The purpose of the study was to determine if age, birth order, and level of acculturation affected the children's scores on the RCDI; to explore the composition of early lexical development of Russian-American infants; and to compare the lexical acquisition of Russian-American children to that of typically developing English-speaking children.;Age produced a significant effect on all of subsections of the RCDI in the absent of any other significant main effects or interactions. The findings of this study were similar to past research on the lexical development of both English-speaking and Russian-speaking children.
