Abstract/Summary:
This study explores the dramatic work of Polish poet and playwright Tadeusz Rozewicz, who wrote most of his plays in the 1960s. The selected plays examined in this work arc: The Card Index, The Witnesses, The Old Woman Broods, The Funny Old Man, Birth Rate, The Interrupted Act, and White Marriage. This paper illustrates Rozewicz's own individual break with form, his created realities, and his use of conflicting images to propel forward the action of the drama. Tension created by two opposing images became the drama and not a plot progression with given circumstances. The unique world of the play for Rozewicz was a struggle of mental pictures swirling in the minds of the audience.
