Abstract/Summary:
End of August is the first half of a coming-of-age novel written during two years spent completing the M.F.A. program at California State University, Long Beach. Aurora, the protagonist, is a fifteen-year-old girl living in Indiana. The story takes place during the summer her Mom begins an affair with the town mailman, who happens to be married. Much of the conflict revolves around Aurora's relationship with her mother, Laine, and her grandmother. The three women live in a little blue house suffocated by their secrets, and uncertain of how to confront that which is not so secret. End of August is centered on family dynamics and life in small town America.
