Abstract/Summary:
This study explored the relationship between gay Latino men and their father before and after coming out. A semi-structured interview was conducted to obtain qualitative date from gay Latino men. A form of non-probability sampling with a purposive snowball sample of 12 gay Latino men living in Southern California agreed to participate in this study. Results indicated that family and cultural values had an impact on the relationship between gay Latino men and their father before and after coming out. Family and cultural views were also impacted by religious beliefs. Most participants relied on friends and gay and lesbian support groups to deal with the stress associated with coming out.
