Many people buy foreign antibiotics such as amoxicillin because they are cheaper than their domestic counterparts, patient's lack of medical insurance, patient's inadequate prescription coverage, and the antibiotics hassle free availability. Taking amoxicillin without the consult of a medical professional or in miscalibrated amounts can lead to life threatening illness. The purpose of this study is to test international samples of amoxicillin to see if they are appropriately labeled according to the dosage amount of the active pharmaceutical ingredient located on the label. As was determined in the study, the label on the bottle is not what is contained in the capsule. The hope of this study is to help the millions of Americans that seek help with their health, to be aware of the dangers involved in using possible substandard antibiotics such as amoxicillin and to hopefully use better judgment when it comes to taking medication for their health. |
