Abstract/Summary:
Methamphetamine has become a growing problem in the United States over the past two decades. Methamphetamine and its associated problems have become a growing concern for the state of Nevada, which has some of the highest rates in the nation regarding use, treatment admissions, and Methamphetamine lab seizures. Many law enforcement agencies across the nation have developed a variety of anti-Methamphetamine initiatives to battle the issue. This study will examine such an initiative enacted by the Reno Police Department in the city of Reno, Nevada and surrounding areas, specifically a Methamphetamine focused intervention on drug markets by a specialized narcotics team. Arrest rates will be examined to determine whether or not the intervention changes who is being arrested for Methamphetamine and other drug offenses. Overall arrests for drug crimes, violent crimes, property crimes, and quality of life crimes will also be examined to further determine the impact and effectiveness of the intervention.
