Abstract/Summary:
A retrospective study comparing the change in incisor position was carried out on two groups of Class I crowded malocclusions treated non-extraction. One sample of 27 patients treated with the DamonRTM System was compared to another sample of 16 patients treated with a conventionally-ligated standard edgewise bracket system. Pre- and post-treatment lateral cephalometric radiographs and dental casts were compared to determine if any significant differences exist between time points and between groups. Both samples revealed an increase in incisor angulation and position, as well as an increase in posterior transverse dimensions. No significant treatment differences were observed between groups, except the maxillary intermolar width was increased to a greater extent in the Damon sample when compared to the conventionally-ligated sample. The sample treated with the DamonRTM System completed treatment 2 months faster than the conventionally-ligated sample.
