Abstract/Summary:
This study examines awareness and implementation of Green/Sustainable design in interior design and architectural practices within the Greater Beaumont area. The researcher conducted a survey of interior designers, interior decorators, and architects to determine perceived knowledge and practice regarding Green design in the local region. Of the thirty-four firms invited to participate, sixteen individuals from eight firms returned the survey. Results indicated respondents thought that they were aware and knowledgeable about Green design; however, few were implementing principles of Green design in their practices or discussing it with their clients. The majority expressed interest in learning more and using more Green design principles and products. However, the low response rate may indicate general lack of interest in and/or resistance to Green design in the Greater Beaumont area. Recommendations are presented to increase knowledge and interest regarding Green design in the industry, as well as, among the general public.
