Abstract/Summary:
The Urban Land Institute has been engaged by the City of Bridgeport in identifying and promoting the best practices in land use and development of the city. This Thesis will review the report that the ULI has issued outlining a blueprint for Bridgeport's economic development success; it contains dozens of recommendations. The city's superb public open spaces, magnificent buildings, and spectacular views provide an impressive imagery of how former generations once lived in such a beautiful city. To accomplish the revitalization of the city, certain abandoned properties will need to be renovated and integrated into emerging redevelopment plans, as well as implementing a balance between jobs and the housing market, revitalizing aging and/or deteriorated buildings, and renewing new development interest. The city should capitalize on the historic buildings in order to preserve and enhance these valuable assets. Along with the support of the ULI, city officials are working on recapturing the glory of the city once again.
