Abstract/Summary:
Quebec's road network is primarily designed with flexible pavements that consist of a granular foundation surfaced with asphalt concrete. Several surface defects are apparent on flexible pavements. Rutting is one of them and is frequently observed on Quebec's pavement. This master will address the permanent deformation of the asphalt, a mechanism that increases rutting.;The test used to characterize the permanent deformation law of these mixtures is the ESSO methodology that consist of a triaxial test. This is a compression test under axial cyclic loading repeated sinusoidal form with and without confining pressure. The change in test conditions such as: the vertical stress, the confinement, the frequency and the temperature will set the parameters of the permanent deformation law.;The result of this research is the permanent deformation law for two mixes (ESG-10 and EB-14). This law will enable the prediction of rutting for a flexible pavement structure using the ESSO rutting method.;Keywords. The mixtures used are one dense graded asphalt mix: ESG-10 used as surface layer and one coarse graded asphalt mix: EB-14 used as base layer.
