Abstract/Summary:
Scope and method of study. The purpose of this study was to determine the economic and geochemical feasibility of utilizing aquifer storage recovery (ASR) technology to store water in the Central Oklahoma Aquifer for use by the City of Mustang. The objectives were twofold: (1) Determine whether arsenic concentrations in the COA will be reduced or increased by introducing a new water source via ASR wells. (2) Determine whether the costs associated with implementing ASR would prove economically feasible for Mustang.; Findings and conclusions. The chemistries of the native ground water and the proposed injectate were analyzed, and both were found to have low activity coefficients, signifying that precipitation of arsenic (or other minerals such as calcite) is not expected. Low overhead costs and ongoing operation and maintenance costs are partially offset by more efficient use of water resources. Aquifer storage recovery is geochemically and economically feasible for Mustang.
