Coalbed Methane (CBM) is an unconventional gas resource that consists of methane production from coal seams. Coalbed Methane gas production is controlled by interactions of a single phase gas desorption from coal matrix and a multi-phase flow of gas and water in the natural fracture system. This process makes it difficult to predict and analyze CBM production. Reservoir simulators have been the best tools for prediction of production performance.; In the absence of key reservoir parameters to properly analyze and predict CBM production with numerical simulators, Monte Carlo simulations stands out to be the best option to reliably estimate the production potential of a CBM. However, Monte Carlo is time consuming, cumbersome and expensive to run.; This project induces a simple but reliable computer tool to better analyze and predict CBM production. The CBM production performance tool is capable of displaying gas and water production data to better analyze and predict CBM production. The program also includes a Monte Carlo simulation which can also be used when some reservoir properties are not available.; With the advent of this tool, gas producers and investors will be able to obtain key reservoir information for newly discovered reservoirs such as gas in place, initial water in place, initial water production rate, peak gas rate, time to peak gas rate, initial maximum water production rate. With this information the investor will better understand the viability of the project.
