Manganese dioxide continues to attract interest as a cathode material in lithium and other types of batteries. In particular, the use of MnO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) may offer significant advantages in Li + secondary batteries because their small size allows more rapid Li + diffusion into and out of the material. We have been studying the electrochemical properties of layer-by-layer (LbL) films containing MnO 2 nanoparticles in various non-aqueous solvent systems. This thesis describes a survey of the NP’s electrochemistry as well as the dependence of NP particle diameter on the electrochemistry observed in LbL structures containing these NPs. |
