Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this research is to examine the possibility of existence of syllabic liquids in Common Slavic by looking at the sequences like tъrt and trъt. There is evidence of modern Slavic languages using syllabic liquids now; there is also evidence of orthographic variation between these two structures, sometimes in the same word without changing its meaning. By looking at this evidence I intend to find out if there is a difference between these two structures or if the orthographic variation is merely dialectal.
