Abstract/Summary:
The objective of this research is to integrate fracture mapping, LandSat lineaments (EarthSat, 1997), Digital Elevation Model (DEM) lineaments, aeromagnetic lineaments and seismic data to identify and trace fault systems across southern Chenango County, New York State.; Field data collected include fracture characteristics such as: orientation, length of exposed fracture, height of exposed fracture, spacing between fractures, fracture linearity, abutting relationships and bedrock type. Fracture data were compiled into modified rose diagrams and compared with LandSat lineaments (EarthSat, 1997), DEM lineaments, aeromagnetic lineaments, and seismic data to identify fault systems. Weights of evidence were used to measure the degree of coincidence between lineaments and field data.; NNE-trending fractures and lineament zones are the most predominant. WNW and NS-trending lineament zones and fracture data were also prevalent. No faults were observed at the surface in the area, but lineament zones were established, which indicate high probability of faulting.
