Abstract/Summary:
A dichotomous key is proposed for the identification of nymphs of three genera and sixteen species of mayflies (Ephemeroptera) of the family Baetidae common to southern New England and adjoining areas. The extent to which these organisms are present in a body of water can be used to assess water quality and the relative biological health and integrity of the habitat. Included in the key are Centroptilum (4 species), Plauditus (6 species), and Procloeon (6 species). The key contains figures to aid in locating and identifying each taxonomic character. Twenty-two references to the literature are cited.
