Abstract/Summary:
In the first fiery fractions of a second after the big bang, as the Universe grew, there is good reason to believe it supercooled and got stuck in a metastable minimum. This thesis is about how it got unstuck. The extreme environment of the big bang entails contemplating high curvature, strong gravity, energetic branes, and extra-dimensional bubble collisions.
