Research On Industrial Structure Upgrading Based On Global Value Chain

Under the background that the global industry division system is facing new reshuffle and China needs to be built modern industry system,researching on the industrial structure upgrading under the global value chain division is significant to enhance China's international competitiveness and accelerate the progress of economic transformation and upgrading.Based on the traditional theory of industrial structure upgrading and the theory of international division of labor,this thesis analyzes the expansion and change of the industrial structure's connotation under the mixed form of international division of labor,which mainly focuses on the value chain division,and discusses the new connotation of industrial structure upgrading based on the global value chain.Besides,this thesis also sets up the new evaluation index system of industrial structure upgrading based on the global value chain and reveals the trends,characteristics and motivations of industrial structure upgrading under global value chain division conditions,to offer the reference for how to promote high-quality industrial structure transformation and upgrading and theoretical support for formulating precise industrial developing policies.Based on the traditional theory of industrial structure upgrading and the theory of international division of labor,this thesis explores the new connotation of industrial structure upgrading under global value chain division conditions,including the upgrading through the same value chain and the upgrading between different value chains.This thesis uses Catastrophe Progression Method to construct the evaluation index system for industrial structure upgrading based on the global value chain,and measures the trends and characteristics of 17 sub-sectors in China's manufacturing industry from 2000 to 2014,and then uses the panel data and Tobit regression model to empirically test the motivations of industrial structure upgrading based on global value chain.According to the trends,characteristics and motivations of industrial structure upgrading based on global value chain in China's manufacturing industry,this thesis tries to provide references for the formulation of industrial policies.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)Under global value chain division conditions,the medium-and low-tech industries can achieve upgrading because they can follow the existing technology track from developed countries,but the high-tech industries are subject to technological pressure from developed countries so their upgrading only can be achieved by independent R&D innovation.(2)The factor allocation structures of industries need to be upgraded,for example,more technical factors should be input in labor-intensive and resource-intensive industries,and more innovative elements should be input in technology-intensive industries.(3)Technology acquisition and transformation factors affecting industrial innovation are important drivers of industrial structure upgrading under global value chain conditions.While introducing advanced foreign technology and transforming and applying it,we should also pay attention to the absorption of technology,thereby improving the capacity of technology learning and absorbing,imitating innovation and even independent innovation.(4)Enhancing the education level of the whole society,increasing the degree of marketization,trade openness in an active and equal communicating way,and creating a great financial environment can effectively promote industrial structure upgrading under global value chain division conditions.The main innovation points of this thesis are as follows:(1)It expands the connotation of industrial structure,expands the traditional industrial structure based on inter-industry division to the new connotation of industrial structure based on global value chain,which includes inter-industry division,inter-product division and intraproduct division.It breaks through the limitation of existing research on industrial upgrading only from the perspective of traditional industrial structure or only from the perspective of global value chain;(2)It uses Catastrophe Progression Method to construct the evaluation index system for industrial structure upgrading based on global value chain.(3)It reveals the motivation of industrial structure upgrading based on global value chain in China's manufacturing industry,and an empirical test is carried out.
