China's is facing a historical node of major structural transformation.Innovation-driven development strategy has become the consensus of the whole country.Through empirical research,this thesis explores the influence of executive narcissism on enterprise innovation performance,and reveals the conditions and regulatory mechanism of this effect.Firstly,this thesis reviews the theory and research of enterprise innovation and executive narcissism.Based on existing literature,we put forward the hypothesis and conceptual model of this study.It uses the longitudinal data of 135 China's listed companies between 2011 and 2016 as a sample to conduct empirical tests through the generalized estimating equation model.The results show that executive narcissism is positively related to innovation performance.In addition,it also finds that this relationship is reliant upon the context of firm heterogeneity.Specifically,firm size,financial strategy and ownership nature can moderate the relationship significantly.Narcissistic executive in large firms obtain greater innovation success than that of narcissistic executive in small firm;In financial expansion firms,the relationship between executive narcissism and innovation output is significantly positive.In contrast,this positive relationship is not significant anymore for non-financial expansion firms.The results also show that executive narcissism in state-owned firm is more conductive to the improvement of innovation performance then that in nonstate-owned enterprises.This thesis incorporates executive narcissism into the research framework of enterprise innovation,which provides a new perspective for the study of enterprise innovation motivation.And by introducing the framework of enterprise heterogeneity analysis,it expands the thinking framework of the relationship between executive narcissism and enterprise innovation performance,and supplements and enriches the research perspective of situational constraints of narcissistic executive decisionmaking behavior.Under the strategic background of "Made in China 2025",this study provides an important theoretical reference for enterprises to select executive,and explores an effective way for China to transform into an innovative country.
