CEO R&D Functional Background And Corporate Innovation

Innovation is an important growth engine in the "new normal" of China's economy.As the main body of innovation,the innovation ability of enterprises is widely concerned.Under the background of Upper echelons Theory,the research on the influence of the background characteristics of executive function on the innovation ability of enterprises is increasing gradually.Although the existing research on the background of executive function has been relatively rich,the research on the relationship between the background of executive function solely and the innovation of enterprises is relatively less.Therefore,the specific situation consideration when the background characteristics of executive function affect the innovation of enterprises is still insufficient.Because the R&D functional background of CEOs belongs to one of the technical background,and other types of background in the technical background may have an impact on the relationship between the R&D functional background of CEOs and corporate innovation,the R&D educational background of CEOs,the academic background of CEOs and the senior professional title background of CEOs are considered as adjustment variables.In this context,based on the data of A-share listed companies in 2009-2017,this paper empirically tests the impact of executive R&D functional background on innovation input,innovation output and innovation efficiency,as well as the Moderating effect of CEO R&D education background,CEO academic background and CEO R&D senior professional title background.The final conclusions are as follows:(1)the background of CEO R&D function has a significant positive impact on innovation input,innovation output and innovation efficiency;(2)the hypothesis that the expected background of CEO R&D education can have complementary effect with CEO R&D function background in the process of cprporate innovation has not been verified;(3)CEO academic background has a significant positive impact on CEO R&D function background In the process of enterprise innovation,it has a substitution effect on the background of CEO R&D function;(4)the background of CEO R&D senior professional title has a substitution effect on the background of CEO R&D function in the process of enterprise innovation;(5)the influence of four types of CEO backgrounds on enterprise innovation is in the order of R&D senior professional title background,academic background,R&D function background,R&D education background according to the order of large to small.The conclusion provides a new thinking direction for the current research on the integration of CEO's various backgrounds,and also provides possible experience support for information users to make relevant decisions.
