The western region accounts for 70.7% of China's land area, have rich natural resources and huge development potential. It is an important supporting force for China's sustainable economic development, and is also where China 's ecological barriers and resource protection are located. However, affected by factors such as natural environment, history, and economy, the development of the western region has always lagged behind the developed regions. In order to promote coordinated regional development and promote social harmony and stability, the State Council of China formally proposed the implementation of the Western Development Strategy in 1999,increase investment in the western region, and speed up infrastructure construction as an important task.It is hoped that by improving the national transportation network, increasing the economic radiation range of developed regions, and promoting the transformation of resource advantages into economic advantages in the western region.2010 proposed Several Opinions on the In-depth Implementation of the Western Development Strategy,2019 proposed Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of the West in a New Era.All the policy plans are steadily advancing the Western Development Strategy, accelerating the construction of transportation infrastructure, and strengthening the relationship between urban and rural areas are of great significance for promoting urban-rural integration, reducing the gap between urban and rural areas, and promoting coordinated urban-rural development.Based on the network and externalities of transportation infrastructure, this paper sorts out the impact mechanism of transportation infrastructure on the urban-rural income gap from the perspective of direct and indirect effects. The mathematical model is used to deduce the impact of transportation infrastructure investment on the urban-rural income gap.Second, the descriptive analysis of the current situation of transportation infrastructure and urban-rural income gap in the western region is made from the regional comparison level of the four major sections and the internal province level of the western region. Then, considering spatial correlation and other factors,a spatial econometric model was constructed.Based on the spatial Dubin model, the impact of transportation infrastructure in the western region on the income gap between urban and rural areas was investigated using relevant data from 12 western provinces. Finally, through the analysis of the empirical test results, the countermeasures and suggestions on the transportation infrastructure construction in the western region and the reduction of the urban-rural gap are put forward.
