Time-honored brands are treasures which have survived fierce competition between businesses for hundreds of years. They are not only a symbol of brand image and high quality, but also the cultural heritage inherited from our own ancestors. These time-honored brands, including products, skills or services are an indispensable part of Chinese intangible cultural heritage.Behind every brand lies in a great story,or a legendary inheritor.Their historical value has often surpassed the products or services themselves, which play a key role in modem business history and also demonstrates the historical origins of China. At present, the rapid development of the economy and society, the key to the new era lies in technological innovation, and the old brand is still synonymous with "traditional" and "old-fashioned" in the eyes of the world. It faces unprecedented challenges in the coming of the industrial Internet era.It is generally acknowledged that "the survival of the fittest" theory is applicable to all market players. However, these time-honored enterprises have managed to survive until now despite social changes and formed their unique images. This great commercial potential means that governments should take various measures to guide, support and protect them.In this article,I will focus on Tianjin,a long-established industrial and commercial city of China.Through the case analysis of its time-honored brands,I will offer an insight to some government initiatives implemented by the Tianjin Municipal Government aimed at protecting and supporting those enterprises.Secondly,This article also presents some of the problems that the government have to face in the process, such as insufficient protection of intellectual property rights, inadequate public infrastructure,Policy measures which concentrates on "transfusion" instead of"hematopoiesis",and failure to form co-operation between individual departments. To tackle all these issues,I would argue that other than former measures of governments, the government should improvement property rights system, also regulate the market order, protect the interests of those old brands legally, integrate departmental resources to offer needy public services, implement necessary initiatives, improve government efficiency, and promote them in a wide range of ways. With such realistic and feasible suggestions I believe that these time-honored enterprises would find their rightful place in today's fierce market competition, and continue to revive or flourish.
