As the three basic material needs of human survival and social development,the intricate coupling relationship between water,energy and food has become a hot issue of widespread concern.Comprehensive evaluation of the systemic,coordination and coupling levels of water,energy and food in all provinces and regions of China is of great theoretical and practical significance for ensuring the sustainable use of resources and supporting the sustainable development of China’s economy and society.This paper based on relevant research at home and abroad,discusses the framework of water,energy and food nexus,and on this basis selects scientific,comprehensive and representative indicators based on statistics of water,energy and food.Using the method of combining entropy and coefficient of variation to determine the weight,the comprehensive evaluation of the development status of water,energy and food nexus in 30 provinces(due to insufficient data,therefore excluding Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan and Tibet)in China from 2005 to 2016 is made,and the coupling coordination model is used to calculate the coupling coordination among the three subsystems in each province.The research results are as follows:(1)According to the comprehensive evaluation results of the three subsystems,the development of water resources and food systems in most areas of China shows a clear upward trend,and the development of energy systems is relatively lagging behind,and even some areas have a downward trend.As a result,most regions show better energy system development in the early stage,and later lag behind the characteristics of water resources and food systems.(2)From the comprehensive evaluation results of water resources,energy and food systems,the evaluation indexes of most regions in China are increasing year by year.The average evaluation results of the eastern region,the central region and the western region in 2016 were 0.60,0.61,and 0.53,respectively.The western region lags behind the eastern and central regions due to resource endowments and economic development.(3)From the perspective of the degree of coupling and coordination of water resources,energy and food nexus,regions are showing an upward trend.In terms of regions,the difference in the development level of the eastern,central and western regions is not obvious,but in terms of growth rate,the eastern region > the central region > the western region.(4)From the perspective of the coupling and coordination level between the two subsystems,the coupling and coordination level of the water-food system is obviously rising,while the coupling and coordination level of the water-energy system and the energy-food system is relatively flat.And the regional coupling and coordinated development level of water-energy,water--food systems is eastern region=central region>western region,with an average annual growth rate of eastern region>central region>western region,coupled development level of energy-food system,the regional differences are not obvious.
