Conspicuous consumption has two impacts.It may waste lots of social resources but it also can play a positive role during social interaction.The motivation for conspicuous consumption can be both efficacy and flaunt.Studies have shown that conspicuous consumption has good influence on social interaction through some medium.Conspicuous consumption also has an important connection with reputation.Beginning with the historical documents of conspicuous consumption behavior,this article has inspected conspicuous consumption's motivation which led to a new explanatory hypothesis.The article has established a model depicting the internal mechanism of this new explanatory hypothesis and pointed out that the motivation of conspicuous consumption can bring out the reputation which can be a pledge to help solve prisoner's dilemma and social dilemma in the restraint of social ethics.First,we verify that the conspicuous consumption can produce reputation,and we demonstrate it by the way of questionnaire survey and analysis of variance.Conspicuous consumption can have a positive impact on social interaction in the public goods experiment.Then,we introduce a new variable to demonstrate that observability can influence the regulation.Finally,we use mathematical methods to calculate the threshold it exists.The experimental and theoretical methods prove our hypothesis.The research conclusion will have reference value in the academic research of conspicuous consumption and public goods experiment.Meanwhile,it will help the individuals and companies make a good impression during the very beginning social interaction.
