Study On The 1933 "Manchuria Great Exposition"

This paper takes the 1933 "Manchuria Great Exposition" as the object of study,and takes detailed raw materials as the support to elaborate the background of the times,the preparatory process and the general situation of the venue of the "Manchuria Great Exposition".On this basis,it briefly analyses the Exposition from the view of visitors and commercial effects.In order to attract people,the organizers held a series of entertainment activities during the Exposition.The entertainment elements inherent in the venue constituted a grand carnival,and behind the ubiquitous entertainment was the ubiquitous enlightenment.At the same time,the organizers constructed a primitive and backward image of "Manchuria" by means of the Exposition,and with the help of visiting groups to Dalian,the image was transmitted to the people of "Manchuria".From July 23 to August 31,1933,the Dalian Municipal Government hosted "the Manchuria Great Exposition",which is located at the foot of Baiyun Mountain in the suburb of Dalian.During the exposition,the organizer attracts the audience through a large number of entertainment facilities and activities.Whether the entertainment elements are everywhere in the venue or various entertainment activities held during the session,the exposition is like a huge carnival.In a short period of 40 days,it attracts more than 470,000 spectators.The huge crowd not only enhances the popularity of the exposition,but also pulls the audience.It has stimulated consumption both inside and outside Dalian,and all of this can not be separated from the efforts of the Exposition Coordination Committee.In order to assist the fair to be held smoothly,the Dalian Chamber of Commerce and Industry led the organization of the Coordination Committee,which gave great support to the fair in the aspects of venue preparation,financial sponsorship,publicity in Dalian,outbound publicity,visitor reception and aftermarket operation.The purpose of "the Manchuria Great Exposition" is to celebrate the founding of"Manchukuo",promote the development of trade between "Manchuria" and Japan,and promote the Japan's exploitation of Manchuria's resources.Through the investigation of the exhibition venues and exhibits,we can find that the exhibition of "Manchukuo" in"the Manchuria Great Exposition" venue is quite limited.The only exhibition elements related to "Manchuria" are a mixture of "resource Manchuria" and "kingdom Manchuria",which is rich in resources and unable to develop.It needs Japan to carry on its "industrial development" and "economic support".The establishment of the image comes from the displaying of differences.The image of the "Manchukuo" in the Exposition also needs to be compared with the image of Japan.Such a comparison exists not only in the venue,but also outside the venue.Japan takes the Exposition as an opportunity to show an advanced "Kwantung Leased Territory" to the people of "Manchuria" in order to show the superiority under Japanese rule.This "advanced" and "superiority" also constructed the "legitimacy" basis for its further expansion of rule.
