Poverty is a process with both internal and external environmental impacts.Efforts are an important internal factor.“If you go against the water, you will retreat if you don't enter,” and personal success cannot be achieved without hard work.Whether the impoverished population chooses to work hard or not depends not only on their character and will, but also on whether the society provides a smooth channel for poverty-stricken people to work their way out of poverty. If the poverty-stricken population can't change their poverty status through hard work, then the government will have higher legitimacy and desirability for aiding them through poverty alleviation policies. This study is based on the large sample of residents of CGSS 2008-2013,using the quantile regression method to study the affects of efforts to lift poverty among individuals from the double perspectives of income growth and income gap reduce. It is found that efforts can promote income growth of the poor and narrow the social income gap. After the samples were divided into four groups of 50,60,70,and 80 according to their birth years,it was found that there were significant differences in efforts to lift the poor out of poverty in different years. At the same time, this study also examines the gender differences and the differences between urban and rural areas in efforts to lift poverty among the poor.In order to effectively combat poverty, the study suggests that the government should work to weaken the impact of the external environment on poverty, increase the returns on hard work, and pay attention to changes in the ideology of the poor, and implement differential poverty alleviation programs in conjunction with the characteristics of the poor,so as to create a more equitable social mobility channels.
