Criticism Of Contemporary Chinese Neoliberal Economic Thought

In the 1990s,under the background of reform and opening up,there appeared many problems in the fields of economic and social in China.However,under the influence of the relatively loose political atmosphere and active ideological and cultural atmosphere at that time,intellectuals actively studied social problems,analyzed the reasons and put forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.Besides,under the international background of Britain and the United States abandoning Keynesian economic policies and implementing liberal economic policies,and with China’s reform and opening up in the urgent need of learning and absorbing other excellent achievements,a new liberal ideological trend emerged in China’s intellectual circle influenced by western neo-liberal thoughts.In contemporary China,neo-liberalism puts forward a series of views on the issues of ownership,distribution,market economy and economic globalization,insisting on further privatization to promote the development of market economy.It attributes the reasons of the gap between the rich and the poor to the corruption caused by privilege and monopoly,holding that the spontaneous adjustment of the market can solve the problem of income gap;it advocates totally free market economy and opposes any form of government intervention;It stands for a completely free and open economic globalization and opposes any form of national protection.In the 1990s,the new left and neoliberalism were engaged in a theoretical confrontation.The two sides sparred bitterly over property rights reform in state-owned enterprises,income distribution,the nature of Chinese society and issues such as globalization and China’s accession to the World Trade Organization.The new left advocates limiting the scale of property rights reform in state-owned enterprises to prevent the loss of state-owned assets,while the new liberalism advocates promoting property rights reform on a large scale to promote economic development.The new left advocates distributive justice,while the new liberalism advocates equality of opportunity.The new left believes that China has been brought into the global capitalist production system,while the new liberals believe that the nature of Chinese society has not changed.The new left questions globalization,while the neo-liberals argue for integration.The ideological trend of neo-liberalism in China has reached an absolute level in its praise of economic privatization,trade liberalization and complete marketization.Its theoretical propositions run counter with the practice of contemporary China’s economic and social development and have brought negative impacts on the construction of China’s socialist market economy.Therefore,we should deeply analyze the essence of the neo-liberalism ideological trend,taking Marxism as the guidance,and criticize the neo-liberal economic ideological trends.In practice activities,we should adhere to the basic economic system in which public ownership is the main body and various forms of ownership being developed together.We should adhere to the distribution system in which the distribution is according to the amount of the work as the main body and coexist with other multiple distribution modes;we should adhere to the market economy system that combines the government with the market,taking an active part in economic globalization,striving for more voices,and realizing more Chinese interests.In a word,we should deeply analyze the essence of the neo-liberal ideological trend,taking Marxism as a guidance,criticize the neo-liberal economic ideological trend,and guide China’s economic development in practice with the Marxist viewpoints and methods.
