Research On The New Generation Of Floating Population's Income Disparity In China

At present,China has entered the decisive stage of building a well-off society in an all-round way.How to make the reform and development achievements benefit population more is an important issue that needs to be considered at the moment.The new generation of floating population is an important driving force for urban social,economic and cultural development,so their living status and income level in the city should be paid more attention from all walks of life.Most of the new generation of migrants still come from the countryside.Although the education level is significantly higher than that of their parents,the weak position of employment has not changed completely.With the rising housing prices and housing rents,the new generation of floating population are facing tremendous economic pressure.The overall data show that the average monthly income of the new generation of migrants in April 2016 was about 41 73 yuan,while 68%of the new generation of migrants didn't reach that average level.In other words,the income generated by the new generation of migrants in urban employment cannot fully cover the cost of living in the city.Despite this,the new generation of migrants are still passionate about the city and eager to settle down in the city.The income level of the new generation of floating population directly reflects the quality of their life,and can also explain their employment status in the city.Therefore,it is very necessary to fully understand the income problem of the new generation of floating population.Based on the 2016 population dynamic monitoring data,this paper first summarizes the relevant characteristics of the new generation of floating population;then determines the income decision equation of the new generation of floating population,and combined with the regression results,analyzes the main factors affecting the income of the new generation of floating population;The income gap within the floating population is decomposed,summarizing the internal causes of income disparity in terms of gender,household registration,and inflow areas,and making effective suggestions for improving the income of the new generation of floating population and narrowing the income gap.The focus of this paper is to analyze the income gap between the new generation of floating population in terms of gender,household registration,and inflow areas,to analyze the composition of income gap and its influencing factors,and to study the income distribution of the new generation of floating population.If there is an unreasonable income gap in the new generation of migrants,it will not only hamper their employment enthusiasm,but also damage social equity and stability.On the contrary,eliminating unreasonable income gaps is conducive to creating a good employment environment,helping to increase the income of the new generation of floating population,helping to increase their recognition of a well-off society,and enhancing the city's attractiveness and concentration to talents.The results of empirical research show that:First,the contribution of gender discrimination in the gender income gap is between 78.51%-89.53%,far greater than the impact of feature differences on the income gap.Moreover,the impact of education on the gender income gap is significantly negative.Improving the educational level of the new generation of migrants will not only narrow the income gap,but also weaken the impact of gender discrimination.Second,the household income gap is mainly caused by the differences in characteristics of different household groups.However,at the higher income level,the new generation of agricultural migrants are subject to more serious household registration discrimination.The influence of education level on the household income disparity is always positive,which will aggregate the income gap.Therefore,improving the employment competitiveness of the new generation of migrants in agriculture is a necessary means to narrow the income gap of household registration.Third,the regional income gap is significant,mainly because of the uneven development of the eastern and western regions.Differences in regional development levels have led to large gaps in factor prices in the labor market.At the same time,the new generation of floating population flowing into the eastern and western regions is also significantly different in characteristics,and the new generation of population flowing into the eastern region is more competitive.In summary,there is indeed a significant gender,household registration and regional income gap within the new generation of migrants.Due to the characteristics of the new generation of floating population,and the comprehensive reasons such as gender discrimination,household registration discrimination and regional development imbalance,the income of males in the new generation of floating population is generally higher than that of females.The income of non-agricultural floating population is generally higher than that of agricultural households.The income of the new generation population flowing into the eastern region is significantly higher than that of other regions.To summarize,to narrow down the unreasonable income gap among the new generation of migrants,the government,the society,and the new generation of migrants need to work together to take a multi-pronged approach for a better and reasonable future.
