The garment industry is a traditional advantageous industry in China and plays an important role in the development of China’s export trade.China’s exports of garment have developed rapidly in the late 1980 s,especially after the elimination of the quota system in 2005.According to the relevant data,the consumption of women’s garments is much higher than that of men’s in developed countries.The market size of China’s women’s clothing is steadily expanding.Europe is the largest export market for women’s wear in China,accounting for a quarter of China’s total exports of women’s clothing.Europe is China’s largest export market for women’s garments,accounting for a quarter of the total exports.The market share of China’s women’s clothing in Europe is maintained at around 20%,higher than other competitors.However,in recent years,China’s women’s garment has been challenged by Bangladesh and other countries.The export growth rate has slowed down and even has been negative for two consecutive years since 2015.The growth rate of China’s women’s clothing export volume is significantly higher than that of the export unit price.It is desirable to consider industrial upgrading,thus improving the international competitiveness of China’s women’s clothing.The paper is aimed at determining the importance of influencing factors to provide suggestions for women’s clothing to enhance the competitiveness and make sustained development.The paper adopts the panel data model to empirically analyze the influencing factors of the competitiveness of China’s women’s garment in Europe.The market share and the index of export rise advantage are used to describe the international competitiveness of China’s women’s wear in Europe.According to the Diamond Model and its extension,the paper adopts factors including human resources,scientific and technological resources,demand conditions,relevant industry,horizontal competition,the quality of product.The paper takes the data of seven major exporting countries in Europe from 2005 to 2016 and uses EViews8.0 to estimate the panel data model of market share and the index of export rise advantage to determine the factors that influence the competitiveness of China’s women’s garment in Europe and the importance of these factors.The empirical analysis results show that scientific and technological resources,the quality of product,horizontal competition,demand conditions,and relevant industry have significantly positive effect on the market share of China’s women’s clothing in Europe,and human resources,scientific and technological resources,and the quality of product have significantly positive effect on the index of export rise advantage.Scientific and technological resources and the quality of product play a very important role on the competitiveness and sustainable development of it in Europe.China’s women’s garment industry needs to increase technological research to improve technology content and the quality of products.What’s more,it is necessary to guide the healthy competition in the industry and promote the cooperation between upstream and downstream industries so as to improve the competitiveness.The paper further analyzes the market selection,and evaluates seven major exporting countries in terms of market potential and trade barriers.According to the results,Spain and Italy have low market potential and low trade barriers.In Spain and Italy women’s garment industry needs to clarify market demand and ensure market share.The UK,France,Germany and Netherlands have high market potential and low trade barriers.In these four countries,China’s women’s garment industry can increase competitiveness by strengthening product quality and increasing brand influence.Russia has high market potential and high trade barrier.In Russia,China can have the aid of the development of the Belt and the Road to strengthen cooperation with the target market and optimize distribution channels,thereby reducing the adverse impact of trade barriers on exports of China’s women’s clothing to Europe.Therefore,the UK,France,Germany and Netherlands are the most suitable European markets for exports of China’s women’s clothing.
