The Study On The Urbanization Of The Pearl River Delta

Urbanization in the Pearl River Delta region is already at a mature stage and is facing many new opportunities and challenges.To promote realizing higher-level and higher-quality urbanization development in the Pearl River Delta region,we must conduct in-depth research on the urbanization of the Pearl River Delta region.For this reason,the following major efforts have been made.Firstly,according to urbanization rate,the process of urbanization in the Pearl River Delta is divided into four stages:1949 to 1978 is the initial stage of urbanization in the Pearl River Delta region;1978 to 1992 is the growing stage of urbanization in the Pearl River Delta region;1992 to 2000 is the accelerated development stage of urbanization in the Pearl River Delta region;2000 to today is the mature stage of urbanization in the Pearl River Delta region.It focuses on analyzing the status of industrial development,urbanization level,and the urbanization dynamics at each stage.Afterwards,the four essential features and five main problems of urbanization in the Pearl River Delta region are summarized.The essential features are specifically: 1,the urbanization structure is very sophisticated;2,urban development has more and more relied on urban agglomeration development;3,the levels of urbanization within the region are very uneven;4,floating population's contribution to the urbanization development is outstanding.The main problems are specifically: 1,the urbanization difference within the region is huge,the level of regional collaborative development is low;2,the industrial base in some regions is weak,the development potential is insufficient;3,the development of public services in some cities is lagging behind,the urban functions are incomplete;4,the population pressure continues to increase,the overall population quality needs to be improved;5,the environment issue is still severe.Secondly,by using generalized principal component analysis and cluster analysis,a comprehensive index system is built to measure and evaluate the comprehensive level of urbanization in the Pearl River Delta region.The comprehensive scores and scores of the comprehensive factor are very discrete,indicating that the de velopment gap within the region is still relatively large,and there is even a tendency to go worse;the scores of conservation factor and innovation-and-environmental-protection factor are generally low and basically in a state of fluctuation without obvious uptrend,indicating that the overall status of high energy consumption has not yet been changed,and that innovation capacity and environmental protection strength need to be further enhanced;the scores of livelihood development factor are only relatively high in Guangzhou and Zhuhai.It means that the social security system and welfare system need to be further improved;the scores of municipal construction factor also show fluctuation.It may be due to the continuity of the municipal construction achievements and the periodicity of the project construction.Subsequently,by using the comprehensive scores of urbanization as the explanatory variable,a panel data model was established to make an empirical analysis to study the impact and role of technical progress and industrial structure optimization on the improvement of urbanization quality in the Pearl River Delta region.The regression result tells that the model is very significant.The coefficient of the technical progress is 0.04984,and the coefficient of the industrial structure optimization is 0.019057.It proves that both technical progress and industrial structure optimization play a significant role on promoting the urbanization quality in the Pearl River Delta region,and that technical progress plays the leading role.Finally,according to the previous study results,six policy suggestions on how to further promote the urbanization quality in the Pearl River Delta region are put up with.
