| Under the background of accelerating ageing,the continuous weakening of the traditional "family mutual insurance" model in rural China and the high incidence of poverty in the rural elderly,the implementation and development of the New Rural Pension Scheme will inevitably affect the occurrence of multidimensional poverty for the rural elderly.Based on the China Family Panel Survey in 2014,this paper estimates the effect of the New Rural Pension Scheme on the reduction of multidimensional poverty as well as the single-dimensional poverty in the economic,health and psychological dimensions.And the mechanism is also analyzed.The empirical results show that the receipt of pension has reduced the incidence of multidimensional poverty as well as the single-dimensional poverty in the economic,health and psychological dimensions.Specifically,judging from each single dimension,the income from the New Rural Pension Scheme can have a significant impact on health dimension.And it has a negative effect on the occurrence of poverty in the economic and psychological dimensions.However,the effect achieved by the policy is very limited.According to the research on the channels,individuals can obtain a stable income stream after reaching the pension age.which can relax the budgetary constraints of rural elderly.Pension recipient respond to the new required pension income in multiple ways:improves nutrition intake and reduce health risk behaviors,better accessibility to health care.reduce labor supply.However,the effectiveness of these two categories of channels is relatively limited.The pension income of the New Rural Pension Scheme also enhances the relative economic status of the elderly,thereby reducing the sense of deprivation among the elderly in social psychology and emotion.At the same time,increasing the number of family meals is also conducive to the elderly to obtain spiritual comfort and improve the satisfaction of life.Further results divided by different group show that the New Rural Pension Scheme income improves the economic status of women.and the elderly in the western region have benefited more.Finally,the paper summarizes the conclusions and puts forward relevant suggestions. |
