China and Vietnam are amicable linked by mountains and rivers.Since the normalization of Sino-Vietnam relations in 1991,the two countries have established extensive and close cooperation concerning diplomacy,policy,economy,religion and tourism.Therefore,the degree of mutual trust between China and Vietnam countries to be consolidated and deepened.Vietnam's accession to the WTO in 2006 and the formal operation of CAFTA in 2010 accelerate China-Vietnam bilateral trade.In 2015,the two-way trade volume amounted to $95-77 billion statistically,thus making Vietnam China's second largest trading partner,and China,Vietnam's largest importer as well.however,despite the growing trade volume,China's trade with Vietnam has been maintained in a state of high surplus for a long period of time,likewise,the trade balance has been widened.All of these have deteriorated the bilateral trade imbalance.On the basis of a large collection of data and practical investigations the author had conducted in the trading ports of both countries,this paper will have a systematic analysis of the current situation of China-Vietnam bilateral trade after summarizing trade imbalance theories of the past.In addition,a comparative analysis on the current situation of China-Thailand trade will be made,based on which,problems existing in China-Vietnam trade imbalance will be concluded,such as the continuous expansion of bilateral trade balance,the severe China-Vietnam trade imbalance.On the other hand,this paper will analyze the causes of China-Vietnam trade imbalance from five respects,including backward economic base of Vietnam,intemational division of labor,Vietnam's contempt of the Chinese market,statistical error from two sides and the pressure of RMB appreciation.Finally,from the perspective of China,this paper will put forward five suggestions to ease the trade imbalance problems between China and Vietnam,including exerting platform and policy advantages,giving full play to the superiority of trade complementarity,improving statistic system of bilateral trade,broadening China's investment scope to Vietnam,handing the pressure of RMB appreciation scientifically.All in all,this paper will provide a reference for the Chinese government to comprehend Sino-Vietnam trade imbalance.The purpose of this paper is to find solutions to reduce and control the bilateral trade imbalance issues and give advice to Chinese government in terms of handing problems in bilateral ties through studying China-Vietnam trade imbalance.Meanwhile,the outcomes of studying China-Vietnam trade imbalance in this paper will also possess great values for the development of CAFTA and economic cooperation in Great Makong Subregion.
