Moving target detection and tracking is the basis of computer vision technology,and is also one of the most popular research topics at present.It is playing a more and more important role in the fields of aerospace,military,medical treatment,especially intelligent monitoring.In recent years,the theory and algorithm of moving target detection and tracking and the implementation based on software platform have been relatively mature,but the implementation based on hardware platform is still a difficult point at the present stage.FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array)hardware platform not only has the advantages of fast parallel processing,but also has the advantages of programmable and flexible functions,so the implementation based on FPGA system for moving object detection and tracking is of research significance and practical value.This subject takes the low cost Spartan6 FPGA chip of Xilinx as the core,and constructs a moving target detection and tracking system based on the FPGA platform.The system mainly consists of four parts,the image acquisition module,the image storage module,the image processing module and the image display module.The main device of the image acquisition module is the digital camera OV5640.The main function of the image acquisition module is to collect the external color image.The main device of the image storage module is the DDR3 SDRAM storage particle,and its main function is to cache image data.The main equipment of image processing module for the Spartan6 FPGA main control chip,the module is the core module of the system,its main function is to achieve a series of algorithms for moving target detection and tracking is required,the data splicing,3x3 image window,image filtering,background difference and frame difference,image binarization morphological image processing and bounding box etc.The main device of the image display module is the VGA display.Its main function is to display the result of the final detection and tracking of the moving target.The system uses the hardware description language Verilog to implement all the functions in order to make full use of the advantages of FPGA parallel operation.The implementation results show that a single moving target detection and tracking function is achieved for 640x480 resolution,30 frames per second color image,1280x720 resolution and 15 frames per second color image,and meets the real-time requirement,which lays the foundation for further work.
