New millimeter-wave applications such as high-speed wireless data links,radar detection and satellite communication require novel antenna architectures with high gain and high efficiency.Dual-beam antennas can reduce the number of antennas,as well as improve link quality,and are widely used in moden communication systems.Meanwhile,Parallel Planar Waveguide Continuous Transverse Stub(PPW-CTS)antennas have the characteristics of high gain,high efficiency and beamforming.In this thesis,the high gain dual-beam PPW-CTS array antennas are studied.The main innovations are as follows:Firstly,review the research history and the present situation of CTS array antenna and dual-beam antenna.Secondly,a novel method for optimizing the leakage constant distribution for sidelobe suppression under the condition of structural symmetry is proposed to achieve two symmetrical main-beams.The radiation performance of CTS,the basic principle of Pillbox,H-Plane horn and the dielectric lens are analyzed.Thirdly,an air filled PPW-CTS array antenna fed by Pillbox is designed.Two symmetrical main-beams are generated on E-plane when feeding on both ends of the array at different time.By moving the horn located at the focus of Pillbox laterally,the beam scanning on H-plane can be achieved.A 16 elements array operating at 14GHz is designed,fabricated and measured.The result shows that a impedance bandwidth of 13.55~15.21GHz in terms of|SI1|<-10dB,a gain of 25.8dBi and beam pointing angles of ±90 as well as the beam scanning angles of-70-5.30 on H-plane have been achieved.-3dB beamwidths of E-plane and H-plane of the array are 4.4° and 11°.The radiation efficiency reaches to 93.57%.Finally,a dielectric filled CTS array antenna fed by H-Plane horns loaded with dielectric lens is designed,fabricated,and measured.An impedance bandwidth of 11.88-16GHz in terms of |Su|<-10dB,a gain of 18.47dBi at 14GHz and pointing angles of ± 10° have been achieved.-3dB beamwidths of E-plane and H-plane of the array are 5.48° and 52.2°.By optimizing leakage constant,side lobe levels of the E-plane and H-plane are-18.9dB and-32.59dB.The radiation efficiency reaches to 72.96%.The two CTS array designed in this paper have the characteristics of low-profile,high gain,high radiation efficiency,low side lobe level,dual-beam and beam scanning,which have broad application prospects in radar,satellite and automotive insustry.
