General Senior Middle School Biology Curriculum Standard(2017 Edition)suggests that biological educators should develop students' subject key competencies from life concept,scientific thinking,scientific inquiry and social responsibility.As an important part of scientific thinking,critical thinking becomes one of the research emphases.This study attempts to promote students' critical thinking based on the "5E" high school biology teaching model.Through theoretical research,it is found that it's necessary to cultivate students' critical thinking based on "5E" teaching mode.Then,questionnaire survey is used to understand the critical thinking status of the respondents and to determine the control group and the experimental group.The "5E" teaching mode is used for the experimental group,while the traditional teaching mode for the control group in experimental study.By means of questionnaire survey,the experimental effects of the two teaching modes are compared to verify whether the "5E" teaching mode can promote the formation of critical thinking.The main experimental conclusions are as follows:(1)In terms of critical thinking dispositions:(1)Before the experiment,the mean score of critical thinking tendencies is 297.20,higher than 280(the dividing line between positive and negative critical thinking tendencies),indicating that the overall level of students is positive;(2)After the experimental study,compared with previous results,the level of the control group does not significantly improve(P value is more than 0.05 on the whole and each item);The experimental group shows significant improvement in both overall(P=0.000<0.01)and individual characteristics(P value is less than 0.05),except the "confidence" dimension(P=0.328>0.05);The level of the experimental group is significantly better than that of the control group(P=0.039<0.05),and mainly reflects in three dimensions,including seeking truth(P=0.038<0.05),analyzing ability(P=0.032<0.05)and thirst for knowledge(P=0.047<0.05).(2)In terms of critical thinking skills:(1)Before the experiment,The mean score of critical thinking skills is 15.64,lower than 17,indicating that the overall level of students is negative;(2)After the experimental study,compared with previous results,the level of the control group does not significantly improve(P value is more than 0.05 on the whole andeach item);The overall level of the experimental group is significantly improved(P=0.000<0.01),"assessment" skill is dramatically improved(P=0.000<0.01),while "reasoning(P=0.758>0.05)and analysis(P=0.857>0.05)" skills are not;The level of the experimental group is significantly better than that of the control group(P=0.042<0.05),mainly reflects in "assessment" skill(P=0.000<0.01).(3)Through correlation analysis,it is concluded that the tendency of critical thinking is significantly correlated with skills(P=0.012<0.05),while critical thinking tendencies and skills are not significantly correlated with the scores in biology test(P=0.654>0.05 ?P=0.558>0.05).Finally,some deficiencies of this study are summarized and the future is prospected.
