This paper, based on previous research, studies the characteristics of the techniques and tactics adopted by the world top badminton players of women’s doubles by means of literature review, video observation and mathematical statistics.Focusing on total 15 women’s doubles of semifinals and finals in the World Badminton Championships and the Rio Olympic Games during the Rio Olympic cycle and Tokyo Olympic cycle from 2015 to 2019,it discusses the features of their techniques and tactics in the first four strokes, strokes in stalemate stage and last stroke,as well as the changes of the features in the last 5 years,as so to analyze the development trend of world women’s doubles of badminton. The conclusions are as follows.Firstly, top shutters of women’s doubles have a low probability in ace,and they serve net shot dominantly, but the Tokyo Olympic cycle has seen backcourt clear service grow in proportion;placement mainly occurs in the first and fifth field before net, while placement during the Tokyo Olympic cycle, have an increasing percentage in the sixth and fourth field in the backcourt. As for the service and reception,push-and-rush,push shot and smash are the predominant skills to attack the mid-field backhand court of opponents and defend against body-chasing hits.In the Tokyo Olympic cycle, there has been an apparent decline in using push-and-rush and spinning drop, but increase in rushing, drop volley and cross shot.Secondly, the badminton players of women’s doubles in world competition have their third stroke focused on defensive and transitional techniques of lift, block and drive.Especially during the Tokyo Olympic cycle, lift has enjoyed a significantly increasing adoption, while the utilization of block and drive maintained few changes on the whole. The placement of the third stroke concentrates on body-chasing courter and forehand courter, followed by forehand counter of back field and backhand counter of midfield. In comparison, the Tokyo Olympic cycle has witnessed an obviously higher rate of placement of the third stroke happen on the backcourt. The main techniques used by the world’s best badminton athletes of women’s doubles in the fourth shot are smash, lift, block and drive. The use of smash has increased significantly during the Tokyo Olympic cycle, but that of lift, block and drive has declined.Thirdly,in the stalemate phase, the major skills are ranked in such a progressive decrease as lift>smash>block>drive, which reflects the characteristics of frequent changes between offense and defense.Lift, net shot, push and block are dominated in the front court, lift, block, drive in the midcourt, and the combination of smash and drop in the backcourt.Strokes per round intensively appear in the offense-defense conversion stage(5-10 shots)and the multi-shot stalemate phase(10-20 shots).During the Tokyo Olympic cycle, the proportion of ultra-multi-shot confrontation(20+shots)has been weighed increasingly.Fourthly, block is the most frequently used technique in the last stroke.According to the properties of scoring, active gains and unforced errors are primary approaches to win or lose points respectively. In the light of analyzing the relationship between technique adoption and the properties of gains or losses,it can be known that block and rush in the forecourt and smash in the backcourt contribute winners for the women’s doubles, while block, lift and smash are the main techniques causing point losing. |
