Textbooks are an important resource for teachers to teach and students to learn, and the value of textbooks depends largely on the use of textbooks by teachers and students.Students are the main participants in teaching activities, therefore,It is of great significance to study students' use of textbooks. The purpose of this study is to investigate the students' understanding and use of chemical textbooks through the combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, such as questionnaire survey, interview method and classroom observation method, and the other purpose is to explore the factors that affect students' use of textbooks,so as to provide suggestions and enlightenment for textbook compilation and revision, teachers and students' use of textbooks, etc. In particular, firstly, the researcher read and combed the relevant literature on the use of textbooks and textbooks, and then concluded the current achievements and trends in the use of textbooks at home and abroad. On this basis, based on the theoretical framework of Sebastian's research on the use of textbooks, and using three research methods: questionnaire survey, interview and classroom observation,to investigate teachers and students for three aspects, including teachers and students' understanding of the nature and function of textbooks, teachers and students' use of textbooks, and teachers' guidance to students' use of textbooks. For the collected data, the quantitative data processing is carried out by using the SPSS data processing software, and through the chi-square test, the differences in the degree of use and the way of use of chemical textbooks by students in different grades are analyzed;at the same time, the qualitative data analysis is carried out by using the rooted theory, and the comprehensive analysis results are obtained.Based on the survey results, the paper mainly draws the following research conclusions :(1)In terms of students' understanding of the nature and function of textbooks, students and teachers generally recognize the importance and authority of textbooks, which are important resources for teaching and learning, but no longer regard textbooks as absolute authority;students generally believe that the content designed in textbooks should be linked to daily life and social production;most of the students think that learning only the contents of the textbook can not learn chemistry well;there is a gap in students' understanding of the nature of textbooks in different grades.(2)With regard to the use of textbooks by students, the survey found that in practical learning, the use of textbooks by students is relatively small, and the role of textbooks is not significant;the use of textbooks by students is influenced by many factors, such as the content of textbooks themselves, the use of other materials, teachers, personal interests and hobbies, network resources and so on.(3)In the expectation of textbooks, students put forward more expectations and suggestions on the content selection, presentation and organization form of textbooks. At the end of the thesis, some suggestions are put forward for the preparation anduse of chemistry textbooks:(1)For middle school students to use chemistry textbooks, middle school students should set up a correct concept of textbook use,and balance the relationship between other materials such as school-based textbooks and textbooks.(2)For teachers to guide middle school students to use chemical textbooks, teachers should respect students' main position, guide students to use textbooks, and make full use of chemical experiments to cultivate students' ability development.(3)For the preparation of chemistry textbooks, the choice of textbook contents should enhance interest and epochal character, pay attention to the close connection between chemistry subject and social life, and pay attention to the education of science essence;the presentation of content is more conducive to students' memory and understanding;the content organization pays more attention to the systematization of knowledge and the penetration of learning methods;combines with information technology;and pays more attention to the cultivation of students' core literacy.
