Objective:Aging has become a major social problem facing mankind.Age-related sarcopenia is a syndrome of aging. The positive intervention effect of aerobic exercise and anti-resistance exercise on age-related sarcopenia has been confirmed, but the research on the effect of tai chi,a traditional sport that can effectively improve the muscle strength, balance and coordination of the elderly,on age-related sarcopenia has not been reported.By analyzing the changes of muscle strength, muscle mass, muscle function and gait characteristics in the elderly with sarcopenia after 12 weeks of tai chi exercise, this paper explores the intervention effect of tai chi on the elderly with sarcopenia. Methods:According to the diagnostic criteria developed by the Asian working group on sarcopenia,36 eligible elderly women in Qufu city,Shandong province, were randomly divided into the tai chi group(n = 18)and the control group(n = 18).The tai chi group received tai chi intervention 3 times a week for 12 weeks and health knowledge lecture once every 2 weeks, while the control group only received health knowledge lecture once every 2 weeks without any regular training. The following indicators were tested before and after the intervention:(1)muscle strength: grip strength, back strength, iliopsoas muscle strength, quadriceps muscle strength, hamstring muscle strength, tibial anterior muscle strength;(2)muscle mass: upper limb muscle mass, lower limb muscle mass, trunk muscle mass and total muscle mass;(3)muscle function: functional stretching distance, standing up and walking time, standing on one leg,6-minute walking distance and SPBB scale score;(4)gait characteristics: the PRO inertial motion capture system was used to collect the time-space and Angle data of lower limb joints when the subject walked flat.SPSS20.0 software was used for statistical analysis of test data, and 2×2 repeated measurement anova was used to measure inter-group and intra-group differences.Results:1.Changes in muscle strength: the trunk back strength, iliopsoas muscle strength of the lower limbs, quadriceps muscle strength of the femoris and tibial anterior muscle strength of the tai chi group after intervention were significantly greater than those before intervention(P<0.05),and there was no difference before and after intervention in the control group(P>0.05).Before the intervention, there was no statistical difference between the two groups(P>0.05).After the intervention, the iliopsoas muscle strength, quadriceps muscle strength and tibial anterior muscle strength were significantly higher in the tai chi group than in the control group(P<0.05).2.Changes in muscle mass: there was no difference before and after intervention in the tai chi group(P>0.05),and no difference before and after intervention in the control group(P>0.05).There was no statistical difference between the two groups before the intervention(P>0.05),and no statistical difference between the two groups after the intervention(P>0.05).3.Changes in performance of muscle function: the time of standing up and walking in the taijiquan group after intervention was significantly less than that before intervention(P < 0.05),the time of one-leg standing, functional stretching distance,6-minute walking distance and SPPB scale score were significantly greater than that before intervention(P < 0.05),and there was no difference before and after intervention in the control group(P > 0.05).Before the interv ention, there was no statistical difference between the two groups(P > 0.05).After the intervention, the timed standing time of the tai chi group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P < 0.05).The 6-minute walking distance and SPBB scale score were significantly higher than that of the control group(P < 0.05).4.Changes in gait characteristics:(1)time-space parameters: the gait speed, stride length and stride width significantly increased in the taijiquan group after intervention compared with those before intervention(P < 0.05).There was no statistical difference between the two groups before the intervention(P > 0.05),and the stride length and pace of the taijiquan group were significantly higher than that of the control group after the intervention(P < 0.05).(2)parameters of joint Angle: the maximum flexion Angle and range of motion of the hip joint and knee joint were significantly greater in the tai chi group after intervention than before intervention(P < 0.05),and there was no difference in the control group before and after intervention(P > 0.05).Before the intervention, there was no statistical difference between the two groups(P > 0.05).After the intervention, the maximum flexion Angle of the hip joint and the ra nge of motion of the hip joint and knee joint in the tai chi group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P < 0.05).Conclusion:1.Tai chi for 12 weeks can improve the trunk muscle strength and lower limb muscle strength of the elderly with sarcopenia, but the improvement of upper limb muscle strength is not obvious.2.Tai chi for 12 weeks had no significant effect on the improvement of muscle mass in the elderly with sarcopenia.3.Tai chi for 12 weeks can significantly improve muscle function and improve balance, coordination and movement in the elderly with sarcopenia.4.Tai chi improves the gait characteristics of the elderly with sarcopenia, improves the gait speed, stride width and stride length, reduces the double support period, increases the flexion an d extension ability of the hip, knee and ankle joints, and increases the range of motion of the hip and knee joints.
