At present,China is in the critical period of industrial structure transformation and upgrading,and the demand for talents in social is getting higher and higher.As a place for talent training and a "product of genetics and the environment",universities are bound to respond to changes in the external environment.The successful university transformation can skillfully handle the disordered state of the university,get rid of the crisis and challenges of survival,avoid being forced to exit,and achieve a spiral rise.Recently,the three national ministries and commissions jointly issued the guiding opinions on speeding up the construction of "double first class" in colleges and universities,which provides guidance for speeding up the construction of "double first class" from the aspects of talent cultivation,connotation construction and deepening reform,in order to guide the successful transformation and sound development of universities.Based on this,this paper takes the transformation and development of the university as the topic,from the perspective of the principal’s leadership,analyzes the successful development of the university’s development experience at home and abroad,and the influencing factors and measures of successful school running,providing inspiration and reference for the universities in transition in China.On the basis of combing the development of the university,this study explores the key role played of principals in the process of university transformation and development.It systematically analyzes the elements and forms of leadership of principals,as well as the conditions for achieving the pathways and roles.Through the case analysis of the educational practice activities and results of famous university presidents such as University of Electronic Science and Technology of China,Huazhong University of Science and Technology,East China University of Science and Technology,and MIT,it is found that principals’ leadership can be achieved by respecting talents,creating an excellent academic environment;practicing with facts,seeking truth from facts;clear goals for running a school;unique personality appeal,and the ability to reform.This refines the main components of leadership of principals,including forward-looking,decision-making,execution,and appeal.The reasons for the efficient leadership are the era development opportunities;the social and cultural atmosphere of free competition;the sound selection system;the education concept of the same line;independent entrepreneurial spirit,etc.Based on the above research results,this paper proposes some suggestions from the national and individual levels to enhance the leadership of university presidents in the "double first-class" background,including that implement characteristic university construction projects;Scientific and fair university and disciplinary assessment methods;Creating a relaxed policy and rule of law environment,In addition,enhancing the "four forces" of university presidents.
