From The Perspective Of Narrative Research, A Study On The Adaptation Of Novice Chinese Teachers To The United States In Primary School Teaching

Abstract/Summary:
With the increasing of foreign Chinese learners,the demand of Chinese teachers has increased significantly.Among these Chinese volunteer teachers,novice Chinese teachers have a large proportion.Facing the Chinese teaching environment overseas which is different from the domestic teaching situation,we focus on whether the novice Chinese teachers who lack practical teaching experience can adapt themselves to the teaching situation successfully and the factors that affect the adaptation of the novice Chinese teachers.As a novice Chinese teacher,L went to the Skyview Elementary School that cooperating with the Confucius Institute at Kennesaw State University in Georgia as a Chinese teacher in October,2017.The teaching adaption is dynamic and developing.As an empirical research,narrative research can record this flexible progress by telling stories vividly.The author does a narrative research to L’s teaching adaption and analyzes the causes that influence the teaching adaption based on L’s teaching logs about four months,then puts forward some suggestions.The first chapter is introduction part,it includes the origin of this study,significance of this topic,research status,research comment and method.The second chapter describes the background of the novice Chinese volunteer teacher L and the situation of Chinese teaching in L’s county and school.The third chapter does a narrative research to L’s teaching log,including teaching subject,teaching content,teaching method and classroom management.The forth chapter analyzes the reasons that influence the teaching adaption of novice Chinese teachers from subjective and objective reasons.The fifth chapter thinks that the novice Chinese volunteer teachers can improve the ability of teaching adaption through the narrative research and puts forward three suggestions that help the novice Chinese volunteer teachers improve their ability of teaching adaption.First,the novice Chinese volunteer teacher should record the teaching log and do self-reflection.Second,sharing teaching resources between Chinese volunteer teachers who are teaching in America.Third,organizing the training for Chinese volunteer teachers in the post regularly.The sixth chapter is the conclusion.The innovation of this paper lies in:first,the author combines narrative research with teaching adaption of the novice Chinese volunteer teachers;second,the author analyzes the teaching adaption of the novice Chinese volunteer teachers in America.It is hoped that the research in this paper will be helpful to the novice Chinese volunteer teachers who will teach in America,help them improve the ability of teaching adaption,complete their teaching missions successfully.
