This study had selected 72 parent-child pairs of middle socioeconomic status families from some secondary kindergarten in Minhang District.Then we observed and coded the situation of parent-child reading.Combining the original coding scheme and the actual reading situation,we divided mothers' behaviors into thirteen and divided the children's behaviors into eight.The children's narrative ability is evaluated by the Colorful Spectral Language Evaluation Scale.The study found that these parent-child pairs,from middle socioeconomic status families,had more frequent interaction in the reading situation,to mark or search for position.However,there were a lot of "mother irrelevant behavior" appeared which had no effect on promoting the reading.According to the relative frequency of each behavior in parent-child reading,the parent-child reading model is divided into 4 categories using clustering analysis,respectively,"co-comment","children oriented","question and answer","reading only".There are unique interactive sequences in different reading patterns,which are consistent with the clustering results.In the ten most likely behavior sequences,only "co-comment" had the sequences about comment,like "mother comment – child agree" and "child comment – mother comment";there are 60% behavior sequences initiated by children in "children oriented";two behavior sequences,"mother closed question-child answer" and "child question – mother answer",are more likely to occur than any other action sequences in "question and answer";"mother read – child repeat" is the only one sequence but the three common behavior sequences of all reading patterns in "reading only".Parent-child reading patterns can explain 5.6% of the children's narrative ability.Children in different parent-child reading patterns have different narrative ability.In the "reading only",the children's narrative ability is lower than the "co-comments" and "question and answer",but there was no difference with the "children oriented".At last,we provide scientific guidance and advice to parents of parent-child reading.
