Analysis Of The Motivation And Process Of The US Military Attack On The Islamic State

The United States has long used military means as an important measure to deal with terrorism.In the course of fighting against Alqaeda and The Islamic State,the United States has used air strikes as the main means to eliminate the effective forces of terrorism.The use of military means against terrorists not only increases counterterrorism morale,but also encourages the international community to support counterterrorism efforts in other non-military areas.However,because military strikes cannot eliminate terrorism at its source,their effectiveness is limited.The terrorist threat and the traditional national security threat have completely different characteristics,which are sudden and scattered.In the face of the fact that the root causes of terrorism,such as religion,nationality and ethnicity,have not been solved,the desire of the international community to eradicate terrorism has not been achieved.On June 29,2014,The Islamic State,extremist group declared the "establishment of the state",which set off a new wave of terror in Iraq and expanded the actual control area.In the face of The Islamic State crazy expansion,considering the American homeland security,America’s strategic interests in the Middle East and America’s global hegemony status of domestic and international factors,the Obama administration announced a series of 10 September 2014 to weaken and ultimately destroy The Islamic State of action plan.In order to avoid America falling into the "quagmire" of war again,the Obama administration adopted the strategy of light footprint and strengthened international cooperation in an attempt to eliminate terrorism through long-range military strikes.An overemphasis on high technology and sophisticated weapons,though far less costly than large-scale ground operations,can only be a devastating blow to terrorism,not an end in itself.The U.S.government’s three-year military campaign has failed to root out The Islamic State.Trump took office by escalating the campaign,giving military commanders more power,and reversing the previous administration’s approach to international cooperation and sticking to the U.S.-first approach.Mosul,Raqqa and other key cities have been recaptured and the Islamic State regime has been wiped out as a result of continued attacks by the us-led international coalition.However,as the Islamic State is the highest expression of polarization,it will continue to exist as long as the potential polarization remains,and the terrorist threat remains a serious challenge to international security.By tracking the similarities and differences between the Obama and trump administrations in the military fight against the Islamic State,this paper analyzes the positive role and limitations of military measures in counter-terrorism.
