Research On Social Work Involving The Integration Of Floating Population Into Communities

Since the 1980 s,in the wake of the continuous development of social economy and the acceleration of the urbanization process,the scale of China’s floating population has grown rapidly.The scale of floating population began to decrease slowly and entered a period of adjustment until 2015.By the end of 2019,the number of China’s floating population has reached 236 million.The floating population promotes urbanization construction,while there are many problems in the process of community integration because of the urban-rural dual structure.Therefore,this paper mainly does research on the community integration of floating population.Firstly,based on the questionnaire and interviews of floating population,local residents and community workers in Y community,the author got their basic situation,including gender structure,age structure,cultural level,marital status and residence time.It also analyzed the problems and causes in the process of community integration of floating population from three levels of economic integration,cultural integration and psychological integration.Secondly,from the strength perspective and according to the types of community assets,the author analyzed the asset advantage of Y community and mapped the community assets from four aspects of personal assets,community organization assets,community groups and sector assets,natural resources and physical assets,it also analyzed the function of community assets and the ability to convert assets into available capital.Finally,with the practical experience,the author put forward some countermeasure proposal about how to use social work methods intervene community integration of floating population in view of the asset-based community development model,which is in order to help floating population integrate into city life better.The study found that the problems of community integration of floating population demonstrated in many aspects such as employment opportunities,working time,expenses and receipts,acculturation,cultural participation,personal identity,community attachment and so on.These problems are closely related to personal characteristics of floating population,community function and assets,household registration system.And community assets have the functions of providing material resources and basic cultural services,promoting the personal development of floating population and shaping the individual roles,and the ability of community assets being converted into available capital is relatively strong.Therefore,under the premise of making fully use of community assets,social workers need to intervene in the human capital construction of the floating population,the establishment of community relations,the integration of asset advantages and the reform of the household registration system and so on.Among them,it needs to improve the floating population’s knowledge and skills and community adaptability from the aspect of human capital construction,enhance personal interaction with local residents and cultivate diverse community organizations and promote information communication among community members from the aspect of community relationship building,advocate the decoupling of the household registration system from the social security and welfare systems of the floating population from the aspect of system reform,so as to promote floating population to integrate into the city better and advance the development of community.
