The United Nations is the largest international organization in the world today, and it has been nearly seventy years since its inception.During these seventy years, the United Nations has made tremendous contributions to safeguarding world peace and promoting common development. The means of United Nations peacekeeping usually include three means of peaceful settlement of disputes, enforcement actions and peacekeeping operations.Peacekeeping means is the most common and effective means. The United Nations successfully solved the problems of North and South Sudan and Iraq's invasion of Kuwait through peacekeeping operations. There are currently 14 peacekeeping operations under way.Under the background of global governance, the guiding ideology of UN peacekeeping operations has also been enriched, the peacekeeping mission has become more arduous, and problems have also been exposed. The international effectiveness of UN peacekeeping operations should be divided into pre-Cold War and post-Cold War.The task of peacekeeping operations before the cold war is generally to monitor the ceasefire and prevent the conflict from continuing. The content of peacekeeping operations after the Cold War was more abundant, and "peacemaking" became the goal of peacekeeping, which formed the new characteristics of "second generation peacekeeping."Through an assessment of the international effectiveness of UN peacekeeping operations, this paper considers that peacekeeping operations have high international effectiveness in safeguarding world peace and eliminating conflicts.Through the analysis of the two cases of high and low international effectiveness of peacekeeping operations, the international effectiveness is evaluated, the performance of international effectiveness of peacekeeping operations and its constraints are summarized, and the path of international effectiveness of UN peacekeeping operations is summarized.
