The phenomenon of illegal immigration is the fastest growing smuggling crime in the world, and this issue has not been effectively managed for long due to its specific characteristics, such as illegality, good concealment and transnational feature. At present, the illegal immigration has spread around the globe and developed into a worldwide problem that jeopardizes national security and territorial integrity of many countries and regions.Contemporary China has gradually strengthened its comprehensive national strength and accelerated the integration with the world, but seems to be stuck in the worsening plight brought by the increasingly rampant illegal immigration activities, which have become a huge obstacle to China's own development path.Above all,the illegal immigration activities in Xinjiang seem to be the most prominent and the most complex one, rendering the governance to be the most difficult move. The outbreak of the problem of illegal immigration in Xinjiang has shown many new features compared with the traditional illegal immigration activities. The purpose of illegal immigration in Xinjiang is no longer simple, the number of illegal immigrants is increasing, and its member constituents also become more complicated.Meanwhile, because of the escalation of smuggling schemes, the division of labor within smuggling organizations has become more clear-cut and detailed, and new illegal cross-border channels have been opened up constantly.Once the illegal cross-border activities have been blocked, the illegal immigrants in Xinjiang will possibly launch the terrorist attacks in the country during the smuggling process, constituting a direct threat to the national security of our country. This article summarizes the results of various types of illegal immigration activities, and finds that the vast majority of them go by contraries and the illegal immigrants mostly end up with miserable fate. Here comes the question:why in recent years, the illegal immigration activities in Xinjiang cannot be prohibited and even become more intensified? To analyze the causative factors of the illegal immigration issues in Xinjiang, there are historical factors, economic and social factors, religious and cultural factors, and international factors as well.As a result of the intertwined ethnic conflicts and religious issues, coupled with the foreign"three forces" which take advantage to promote the religious extremism, the illegal immigration issues in Xinjiang have become serious political and social problems over the years. This problem not only directly threatens our country's national security, undermines our social stability, but also threatens the public safety worldwide. It gives the western countries a perfect excuse to dominate and undermine the public opinions of our country, and continues to endanger the international relations between China and other relevant countries, bringing extremely adverse consequences both domestically and internationally.Through the above analysis, this paper puts forward some pertinent suggestions and countermeasures, hoping that the relevant departments of our government must attach great importance to effectively strike and control the current plight of the illegal immigrants in Xinjiang.Meanwhile, this article proposes that on one hand,we should focus on strengthening the economic development and regional balanced development of Xinjiang;on the other hand,we should carefully address the local social governance work through the following aspects, including education, national solidarity, religious management, and training of ethnic minority cadres. Our government should also strengthen international cooperation to effectively combat the "three forces",aiming to effectively resolve the current illegal immigration issues in Xinjiang and to curb and eliminate such issues in the root causes ultimately in the future.
