The Ming zhongdu was the first capital city built in the early Ming dynasty. It was a model for the reconstruction of Nanjing and the construction of Beijing. The Ming zhongdu plays an important role in the ancient Chinese capital site selection, design thought, planning layout, palace system, building technology, stone carving art and other aspects. It is a treasure in the history of Chinese architecture.Although the Ming zhongdu failed to be used as the capital later, only ruins remain. However, the Ming zhongdu was built on the plain instead of being rebuilt from the old city,so the stratum was not disturbed. The Ming zhongdu ground building has been seriously damaged, but the foundation is still there, the foundation site in particular. After the completion of the construction of the Ming zhongdu,it has not been rebuilt, but now there are only some single-storey houses on Yunji Street. Therefore, the site of the Ming zhongdu is a complete site of the capital, which has a high research value and is a very precious cultural heritage. This paper firstly sorts out the historical evolution of the Ming zhongdu, and then investigates the preservation status of the Ming zhongdu, puts forward some problems in the protection of the status, and puts forward some Suggestions for the better protection of the Ming zhongdu ruins. Finally, the historical and cultural value of the Ming zhongdu site is analyzed, and it is believed that the cultural value of the Ming zhongdu site fully conforms to the criteria for applying for world cultural heritage. This kind of work is currently under way,and it is hoped that the investigation and research in this paper can provide some help for the application for world cultural heritage of the Ming zhongdu site.
