Research On Wang Shaoxing, The Inheritor Of The Grass Gongs And Drums In Northern Sichuan

North Szechuan Weeding Gongs and Drums,which literally spreads in the northern part of Szechuan province,is a local folk music cultivated in the soil of culture of the Ba-shu region.It bears rich cultural connotation as well as both historical and artistic values.Among the different styles of the Wedding Gongs and Drums spreading in Guangyuan City,Szechuan Province,the most representative one is the “Wang Family” Weeding Gongs and Drums inherited by Mr.Wang Shaoxing from Qingchuan County.With Mr.Wang Shaoxing from Tielu Village,Banqiao Township,Qingchuan County as the instance,this thesis conducted a case study on the inheritors of North Szechuan Weeding Gongs and Drums.By collecting and organizing the previous research results on the inheritors,this thesis attempted to dig into the present research situation.And through field investigation and face-to-face exchanges,the author tried to search for research material through dialogues,state the inheritor's experiences of acquiring skills and elaborate on his performance routine and singing features.Then,the musical characteristics of the songs inherited by Mr.Wang were analyzed and ultimately his contributions in the process of spreading North Szechuan Weeding Gongs and Drums was also concluded.This thesis can be divided into three parts: the introduction,the main body and the conclusion.In the introduction,the reason and meaning of choosing this topic,the present research situation of home and abroad,the development tendency and methodology were observedThen the main body consists of five chapters.According to Mr.Wang's oral history,the first Chapter,which also took his skills-acquiring experience as the mainline,divided his experience into five periods in chronological order,which described the close connection between Mr.Wang and North Szechuan Weeding Gongs and Drums in different periods.The second Chapter stated the characteristics of Mr.Wang's performance routine,which included beginning,worship,singing,improvisation and the end.Through filed investigation on Mr.Wang's performance and comparison with other performers' videos and literature,the author found that Mr.Wang's performance routine is more detailed with evident styles and features,which is different from the traditional performance.The third Chapter described the singing proficiency of Mr.Wang.Based on his singing style,methods,skills and dialect rhyme,the analysis on his singing characteristics was conducted.The fourth Chapter is the music analysis on Mr.Wang's music.The North Szechuan Weeding Gongs and Drums music scores inherited by Mr.Wang was classified into two categories,which are the singing part and the accompaniment.Moreover,instances were displayed for analysis on his music features.The fifth Chapter discussed Mr.Wang's achievements in terms of inheritance,innovation and contribution in the course of spreading North Szechuan Weeding Gongs and Drums.And by interviewing groups involved in his activities of inheritance,an objective conclusion was made on his contribution and innovation in the process of inheritance.Ultimately,the conclusion stands as the vital part of the thesis.It concluded the main factors making Mr.Wang Shaoxing an excellent inheritor;and the conclusion that the inheritor and the northern Szechuan folk music and culture reinforce are in a relationship of mutual reinforcement was achieved.
