| Macedonia has a very unique geographical location. It is located in the northern part of the Greek world, the kingdom was made up of two areas,Upper and Lower Macedonia. And the two areas are often in a split state, until King Alexander I was united. In addition,Macedonia lives close to many barbarian tribes, forming a very strong folk custom, which is different from the mainstream Greek city-state.The split political situation and the geographical location of the division line make the Macedonian nation keep in touch with the Greek city-state,but it has not been recognized as a member of the Greek for a long time. This situation did not change until the reign of Philip II.Through a series of political and military reforms,Philip II’s Macedonian government has become more and more powerful. While building a strong Macedonian state,Philip II has been seeking the change of Macedonian National Identity, hoping that Macedonia can become one of the Greeks. Finally, under the support of strong political and military strength,Philip II achieved this goal to some extent. This paper is divided into three parts: preface, main body and conclusion. The preface mainly introduces the research significance of the topic and the research status at home and abroad. The main body is divided into three parts, with the time of Philip II’s rule as the clue. The first chapter introduces the Macedonian environment before Philip II’s accession and the Greek’s views on Macedonian nation. The second chapter describes the political and military reform of Philip II and how Macedonia leaped from a secondary city-state of Greece to the overlord of the Greek world. The third chapter is about how the national identity of Macedonia has changed in this process and what this change means. |
